We’ve started getting used to the images of military maneuvers, shelling, unexpected military communiqués, and the expected ones, which always started, “In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful,” and ended with “And may the wicked be shamed.” We were bombarded with patriotic songs, the National Anthem, verses from the Koran, and the slogan that the martyrs were the most generous of all. These colors started to fade. Civilian life began to resemble a khaki chameleon, which pricked up its ears at the sound of the air-raid siren, wandering quietly through the darkened streets, until the curfew is imposed.
