Chapter 12: A New Quest

When I woke up, I was back home in my bed. I could hear people rummaging around downstairs and the thought of a full house made me smile. Way back when I had talked about how a community lifestyle would never fit me, but the truth was maybe now it would. At least with these guys. I didn’t remember much from the rest of the day that Yaretzi had been reborn. To be frank, I wasn’t quite sure what day it was. Sighing, I got up off the bed and shimmied into some leggings and a tank top. Grabbing one of Lucifer’s sweatshirts off the bedpost, I opened the door and headed downstairs.

“There she is!” Claire came up and gave me a warm hug along with Lucy and Jackie. I returned a it with a smile and then went and hugged Lucifer.

“This time wasn’t my fault.” He gave me a kiss on my forehead and let out a sigh at my defense.

“If I had a dollar for every time I had been told that, we’d be on our way to becoming rich.” Andre snickered as he walked up behind me. Feeling like it was going to be a good day, I gave him a hug, too.

“Oh, what’s this for?” He seemed taken aback by the show of affection but took it like a champ.

“Eh, who knows. You have to put up with my antics as well as deal with him.” I used my head to point at Lucifer. That also earned a laugh from everyone and when I looked back at Lucifer, he was just shaking his head with a grin on his face. “It’s a neat little family we have, isn’t it?” I looked around at them filled with nostalgia. It truly had been a long time since I had felt like I had a family. Al counted in some ways but let’s face it he left me to my own devices in situations when I probably needed an adult.

“Hey, kiddo. I don’t get a hug, but these lugs do?” Speaking of the devil, Al, with Deidamia trailing after him, walked over to me with his arms out for an embrace.

“How could I ever forget the one that got me through all these years?” I gave him a playful smile. As full as my heart felt, it was still heavy, and I knew that it came from the piece of me that was missing: Maze. She had never deserved to be locked away and instead of all these games to try and protect the one that was repeatedly reborn, my past selves should’ve been trained to harness the power that Maze had, so failure didn’t occur.

“Oh, I’m sure you couldn’t.” The smile Al gave me was overjoyed. I could see that he had found some solace in everyone’s presence as well. In the end, I guess I had done a pretty good job keeping everyone intact, alive, and kicking. Even Deidamia had been hanging around more, but I’m sure that had more to do with Al than any of us.
