2. Using an Analogy to Find the Facts
Analogies can be used to find facts. Fact finding is beyond the scope of this book, but an illustration from daily life may be useful. Your old dog, Harlequin, has regular habits. She is used to being walked at 7:15 a.m. before you leave for work, and at 5:30 p.m. as soon as you return home. One day an emergency keeps you at work late, and you reach home at 7:00 p.m. As you insert your key in the lock, you look through the glass in the door and see Harlequin urinating on the floor of the entry hall. A few weeks later, you are again detained at work and reach home at 7:30 p.m. When you open the front door, you espy a yellow puddle on the floor of the entry hall. You know exactly what has happened.
