For all my comments about keeping the Crown Prince waiting there were duties expected of me. And I knew we were pushing it.
Besides, once this was done, once weâd seen Hal, we could justifiably stay here, locked in this suite for the rest of our time at Nind though part of me would feel guilty if we did do that. Hal rarely got visitors. And I think if I essentially ignored him he would be almost certainly hurt.
We washed as quickly as we could. There wasnât time for a bath but we were both dirty from the road and then from what had come after.
Iâd already made sure Alice had suitable dresses to wear. That she had a whole wardrobe worth to choose from.
She pulled one after another out, her face screwed up.
âYou canât wear leathers the entire time.â I said.
âIâll look like a giant marshmallow in these.â She said.
âWhat is that?â I asked.
She let half exasperated sigh. âNever mind.â
âAny one will do.â I said.
She shot me a look because she knew what I was up to. That I was essentially telling her to just pick one and be done with it.
She yanked one off the rail, putting it against her frame and then tossed it onto the floor.
âWhat was wrong with that?â I asked.
âIt doesnât go with my skin colour.â She replied shooting me a look that dared me to object.
I walked away, poured a glass of wine, and drank it, realising that me standing there, watching her was probably making this even worse.
I liked to think that I understood women. At least I thought I did. And then she came along and turned everything I knew upside down.
âIs this okay?â She asked.
I turned seeing her now in a deep maroon dress that dipped low enough to give a hint of cleavage. It had rose like ruffles that looped around the entire neckline revealing the tops of her shoulders so that the dress look like it was almost sleeveless.
âYou look beautiful.â I stated.
âYou always say that.â She murmured blushing all the same.
âThatâs because itâs true.â
She shook her head clearly trying not to grin. âCan you do the back up?â
I put the glass down, walked to her and slowly laced the ribbons. âIf youâd brought Mira with you she would have helped you dress.â
âBut then what need would I have for you?â She quipped.
I grinned planting a kiss at the nape of her neck as my hands slid around to grab at her curves. âYou know you have a lot of need for me Alice.â
She turned in my arms looking up at me those incredible green eyes of hers. âMaybe I do Fain. Maybe youâll have to continue making me need you.â
I let out a laugh. âOh donât worry about that. After weâre done with Hal Iâm not letting you out of my sight until we have to leave.â
She went up on tiptoes kissing me. âIâll hold you to that.â She half whispered.
