For all my comments about keeping the Crown Prince waiting there were duties expected of me. And I knew we were pushing it.

Besides, once this was done, once we’d seen Hal, we could justifiably stay here, locked in this suite for the rest of our time at Nind though part of me would feel guilty if we did do that. Hal rarely got visitors. And I think if I essentially ignored him he would be almost certainly hurt.

We washed as quickly as we could. There wasn’t time for a bath but we were both dirty from the road and then from what had come after.

I’d already made sure Alice had suitable dresses to wear. That she had a whole wardrobe worth to choose from.

She pulled one after another out, her face screwed up.

“You can’t wear leathers the entire time.” I said.

“I’ll look like a giant marshmallow in these.” She said.

“What is that?” I asked.

She let half exasperated sigh. “Never mind.”

“Any one will do.” I said.

She shot me a look because she knew what I was up to. That I was essentially telling her to just pick one and be done with it.

She yanked one off the rail, putting it against her frame and then tossed it onto the floor.

“What was wrong with that?” I asked.

“It doesn’t go with my skin colour.” She replied shooting me a look that dared me to object.

I walked away, poured a glass of wine, and drank it, realising that me standing there, watching her was probably making this even worse.

I liked to think that I understood women. At least I thought I did. And then she came along and turned everything I knew upside down.

“Is this okay?” She asked.

I turned seeing her now in a deep maroon dress that dipped low enough to give a hint of cleavage. It had rose like ruffles that looped around the entire neckline revealing the tops of her shoulders so that the dress look like it was almost sleeveless.

“You look beautiful.” I stated.

“You always say that.” She murmured blushing all the same.

“That’s because it’s true.”

She shook her head clearly trying not to grin. “Can you do the back up?”

I put the glass down, walked to her and slowly laced the ribbons. “If you’d brought Mira with you she would have helped you dress.”

“But then what need would I have for you?” She quipped.

I grinned planting a kiss at the nape of her neck as my hands slid around to grab at her curves. “You know you have a lot of need for me Alice.”

She turned in my arms looking up at me those incredible green eyes of hers. “Maybe I do Fain. Maybe you’ll have to continue making me need you.”

I let out a laugh. “Oh don’t worry about that. After we’re done with Hal I’m not letting you out of my sight until we have to leave.”

She went up on tiptoes kissing me. “I’ll hold you to that.” She half whispered.
