Chapter 13

House of Mather announcement in the local newspaper.

The renowned and beloved Helen Escoffier from the House of Mather was found dead in her office yesterday morning.

It appears she was stabbed to death. The theory is that she surprised the intruder. Although they have a suspect in mind, they are still asking the public for assistance.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Prefecture du Police.

The next morning as Rosa entered the office, she could hear Pascal’s mind as he read the article in the newspaper he was holding.

The channel on the television switched to a breaking news bulletin about the death of Helen Escoffier.

The anchorman repeated briefly what Pascal had been reading and encouraged the public to please call in if they had any information about the case.

At that moment, Helen walked into the office and one of the employees gasped.

“Pardon, madame.” Eyes bulging, they were unsure of how to react.

“I understand.” Helen replied and walked into her office.

Since Rosa didn’t want to rush in, she waited a few minutes before approaching the office.

This time Pascal was sitting by his desk. She asked if she could see Madame Escoffier. He picked up the phone spoke to someone on the other end then returned the receiver and informed Rosa she could go in.

As she walked away, he thought she was probably scared about being sent home and wanted to make sure that the program was not going to be terminated.

Rosa did not give him any indication she knew what was going through his mind. She knocked and entered the office. Closing the door behind her she placed her finger to her lips letting Helen know that she was not to say anything.

Rosa sat across from her and leaned forward to whisper.

“How are you doing?” She asked.

“As well as can be expected.” Helen answered.

“Yes, I understand.” Rosa said, nodding her head.

“What can I do for you Rosa?” She asked.

“I was wondering if there were any cameras in the building or in the surrounding area?” Rosa wanted to know as this would make it much easier to figure out who was in the building.

“No. This is not as it is in America where there are cameras all over the place. There is only one outside down the street and the police have already informed me that they did see someone but the person remained hidden close to the wall. It was impossible to see who it was that entered or left the building.” She responded.

“How can that be? If there is a camera it should show who walked in to this office.” Rosa stated.

“Yes, that is true. However, this person knew exactly what they were doing. He, I believe it’s a he, kept his head down and walked in a way that prevented his face from being recorded. The investigators are baffled as to who could’ve killed my sister.” She covered her face with the palms of her hands.

Rosa waited giving her some time to get her bearings. Taking a deep breath Helen straightened herself and faced Rosa.
