I was sitting in the waiting room at the good doctorâs office, while Liam had his turn in therapy.
It was going to be an hour of waiting and I decided maybe I should take a look at Jeremiahâs pranks on YouTube.
He had over 500 videos, and they were all horrible pranks he kept playing on people. With every prank I watched, my stomach twisted and turned even more. It wasnât just the pranks that made me sick to my stomach though; it was also the blatant violation of peopleâs privacy. He ignored every single person who told him not to video them, and then he posted it on a public forum without their permission.
Plus, it got views.
Nothing astronomical, but certainly enough to make a healthy income, if the pop-up adds every two minutes were any indication.
It amazed me somebody hadnât killed him before now.
My head started to roll with all the suspects who could be available.
Granted, not all the suspects were at Last Resort and Spa, but the most recent videos had people at Last Resort.
I focused in on the last five pranks. They consisted of Roxie, Mia, Hazel, Roman, and a man I didnât know, but looked almost exactly like Jeremiah, except twenty years older\, probably his dad.
There were other pranks done on the Last Resort grounds, but those were done on Last Resort customers, and they were far more mild pranks.
I rewatched the prank he played on Mia, fighting the bile rising in my throat. Heâd snuck into the kitchen while she was setting up the rolls in the morning, dressed as one of the topiary shrubs she had scattered throughout the restaurant.
I watched as she came into the dark, supposedly empty kitchen, turned on the lights and was turning to put her stuff down when the topiary lunged at her.
A shrill scream echoed out of my phone, tinny and visceral.
Mia threw her bag at him, turning and running to the door, while he fell over onto the floor, laughing.
I could see Mia collect herself, understanding what happened, before walking over and kicking him in the gut. She grabbed her bag, pulling out the phone and dialing the police, I suspected.
I put my phone down, unable to watch anymore.
As a woman, just watching a safe space being violated by a self-righteous man was extremely upsetting.
And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
âDoes it make me a bad person if Iâm surprised it took this long for someone to kill him?â I asked myself out loud.
The receptionist looked over at me. âWhat was that, hon?â
âOh, nothing. Iâm just doing some research.â
âOh, okay. Well, itâs just about time for your session. So, if thereâs anything you need me to get you before you go in, please let me know.â
âIâm good. Thank you so much.â
âNo problem, hon.â
Liam came out a couple of minutes later with a big old grin on his face. âThat was an excellent session. The doc is on fire today. Youâre gonna have a great session.â
I gave him an âif you say soâ face and went inside.
