II Chron.20.20: Believe in Yahweh, your God, and you will be established (Isa.7.9);

II Chron.15.2: ‘If you seek him, he will be found by you’ (Jer.29.13f.),57

and time and again demonstrated the validity of these promises in their history.58 In so doing they wanted to demonstrate that, properly understood, prophecy was very useful for the orientation of Israel in history. For the Chronistic historians the word of prophecy was an indispensable guarantee that Yahweh remained faithful to his Israel – and even more to his special Judah – as long as the people always constantly returned to him.

The third synthesis made by the Chronistic historians was their incorporation of the Jerusalem psalm tradition into their work. Not only were they interested in the cultic songs and cultic singers,59 but sometimes they even wove quotations from the Psalms into their text (I Chron.16.7-3660), by means of which they gave above all the liturgical praise of the Jerusalem cult,
