Chapter Thirteen
The family dinner at Blanchardâs was surreal to Desi. It was a good example of how drastically her life had changed. There were so many people who were happy about the wedding the next day, and they accepted what Harry meant to her. Harry was talking to Jude and Monica, but she gazed at her often enough for her to know she was on Harryâs mind.
âAre you feeling okay?â Keegan asked. The head chef of Blanchardâs wasnât working that night but had been giving orders since she and Sept arrived. In the months Desi had been with Harry, Keegan had become a good friend and had invited her to dine in the kitchen often. She and Rachel had come without Harry for lunch, and she enjoyed Keeganâs friendship. Keegan got the credit for inviting some of the people whoâd attended her show.
âIâm excited enough that Iâm trying to ignore my aching feet tonight. Thank you again for doing this for us.â The dinner for everyone attending tomorrow was Keegan and Septâs wedding gift.
âPlease, Iâm having children with Sept, and if Iâve learned anything from the Savoie family, itâs that having someone who can set bones on speed dial is a good thing. Besides that, we love you guys, and Iâm so happy for you both.â Keegan was a beautiful woman who, like Harry, couldâve had anyone. Sheâd picked Sept, who was a cop from a cop family, and they made it work. She thought of them when she was insecure of her place in Harryâs life. She didnât need to be a doctor or any other high-flying professional. She could just be herself.
âSept mentioned you were still having morning sickness.â She knew Keegan was having twins. Sept reminded her a lot of Harry, and she was worried about the size of her baby, so she couldnât imagine having two at once.
âThatâs the worst name for that since itâs all-the-time sickness,â Keegan said and laughed. âItâs getting better, but work has been a bear.â
âYou should teach Savoie to cook something to give you a break,â Harry said, putting her arms around Desi from behind.
âSavoie knows how to cook plenty. If you ask her, she could teach you a couple things.â Keegan winked and excused herself to talk to the staff.
âI love you,â Harry said when they were alone. âTomorrow Iâm finally going to get what Iâve wanted all my life.â
She leaned back against Harry and smiled. âWhatâs that?â
âI get you, and I get to call you my wife.â Harry kissed the back of her neck, making her shiver. âThat we donât have to wait much longer for the baby is a bonus.â
The baby was active and Harryâs hands on her seemed to rev the gymnastics. She put her hands over Harryâs and really leaned back into her. This was her safe place, her person, her home. âWho knew I was that smart in high school.â
Harry kissed the back of her neck again. âThank you for saying yes, and for loving me.
