All through dinner and long into the night, I thought about Addie and her reason to want Nicolas dead. She’d had a dream, a hope, a wish . . . and he’d dashed it by continuing to pursue Meaghan. Was Addie a killer? She admitted that she’d gone to Meaghan’s house and had seen Nicolas there. Lissa Reade couldn’t testify to anything more than seeing Addie running away. Would Addie go to the police like I’d suggested? Would she tell them her side of the story, that she’d seen Nicolas alive and fled? If only I knew what Nicolas had of hers that she wanted back.

I sat at the desk in my living room and jotted down the timing of events on Wednesday afternoon and evening. I’d add them to the whiteboard in my office in the morning.
