Chapter Six

Puttering around the apartment waiting for Michelle or Bior to show up was driving her crazy. Kiara finally gave up on TV and reading. She put on her running sneakers and went outside for a run. She had money in her fanny pack to stop at the fresh market for fruit and some items to make dinner. She expected Bior to be back and wanted to do something nice for him like make dinner. After the way he made her body hum she could at least feed her dragon. My dragon. The thought made her smile. She looked like a happy sated women in her running gear in the middle of the fresh market with other mothers and young single women. Compared to where her life had started, she was amazed she was even alive. So steeped in her thoughts she didn’t notice Mike until he threw his arm over her shoulder and pressed a small gun into her side.

“It’s a thirty-eight but right where it is, it will do some serious fucking damage when I pull the trigger,” he said mildly.

“Oh, Mike how good it is to see you,” her voice dripped sarcasm even as fear raced through her.

“You’re pretty easy to track. I found Michelle’s pet living large in a swanky apartment,’ Mike sneered. “Where’s the others? Sent away with a care package like me? You’re the only one who gets to reap the riches?”

“Michelle did more for them than you ever could. They are exactly here they want to be and happy with it,” Kiara said as they walked. ‘What the fuck do you want anyway?”

“Why you of course,” Mike said. “With you as my pawn, Michelle will come running and she has a big purpose in my plans.”

Kiara’s mind raced for a plan. If he took her off the streets, it would be difficult for them to track her, even Bior. Thinking of his name, she recalled what Michelle said about his mating scent and how to use it to her advantage.

“Well if you’re going to take me, we need to go back to the apartment,’ she said calmly.

Mike laughed. “Are you insane? Who’s there waiting for me?”

“No one. The dragons are off world,” she explained. “Don’t know why but I’m mated with Bior now, his scent is all over me and everything I own. He will track me here and then smell you. Remember how he wanted to kill you? Well for me he will rip you apart and keep you alive as he does it.”

His step slowed and she saw him swallow and his eyes dart around in fear.

“In that case why do we need to go there?” Mike asked.

“So I can pack my things and write a note. I can say that it’s not working out and I’m heading back to Washington State. I can say Bior broke my heart and Michelle didn’t care.” Kiara explained. “Then it gives you time to put your plan in play.”

“Why would you do that?” He stopped walking completely and looked down at her.
