Chapter 25: Washing your Shih Tzu

Washing a dog needs to be given more emphasis. This is because of the point that if you are reckless in showering, the dog may end up having some infections... For example, if you don’t block the hearing/ears with large pure cotton ball, the regular water may go in the ear pathways and may cause some ear infections with symptoms like continuous discharge from the ears and trembling or shaking of the head.

Frequency of showering actually relies on the type of the dog. If the dog is of a furry kind like the cocker spaniel, then the bathing is to be conducted once in six to eight weeks. If these kinds are bathed too regularly, then the epidermis (skin) and coat reduce the protective characters. However, when the dog has defecated on the epidermis due to the regular intestinal problems resulting in diarrhea, to avoid the bad smell, the dog may be exposed to regular showering some times by the owners.

Take more appropriate care to avoid some nuisance cleansers or individual cleansers --such as human soap etc. The detergent components used for humans are not appropriate for animals. Similarly, many individual hair shampoo items are having some components that are not appropriate in the ratios that are to be used in situation of dogs. Hence, always try to use the hair shampoo items that are mentioned mainly for use in dogs. Take more appropriate care in using any new product.

Always have good time and patience for items needed for bathing in one place with accessibility to regular water source. Dogs really like the sprinkling of regular water, streams, and sea. Even when you are using the bathtub, have everything in one place and then begin showering of the dog. Try to have a leash, conditioner, soft terry towels, and hair shampoo in the bath place.

Conditioner is of necessary to make the brushing action easier later. Bathing should be a practical action to both the dog and the owner. This should not be a burden.
