We both laughed.

A new song started. Princess Sing-Along screeched, “Here is a fact about your hair, la la la. Disgusting bugs may live in there, la la la. Don’t just sit there saying eww, la la la. Take a shower and shampoo, la la la.”

“I love this song. It looks like Alexa loves it too,” Mia said.

Alexa was smiling and swaying to the music.

That surprised me. I thought she couldn’t stand Princess Sing-Along.

Then I noticed she was wearing earphones and carrying her music player. She wasn’t listening to the concert at all. She was probably swaying to a song by The Hot Boys or Teen Love or one of her other favorite bands.

I wished I had brought earphones. Princess Sing-Along was now singing, “If you watch TV all day, la la la, your poor brain could shrink away, la la la.”

“This song is great too,” I told Mia. Then I whispered to Hector, “As great as stepping in dog diarrhea.”

He whispered back, “As great as eating boiled lima beans.”

We spent another ninety minutes at the concert. It felt like ninety hours. Princess Sing-Along screeched many more songs and did a bunch of dumb dances. The kids in the audience screamed. The girl behind me kept kicking my chair. The baby behind me cried a lot.

At least Mia enjoyed the concert. She clapped so hard her hands got red and cheered so much her voice got weak.

As we finally walked out, she said, “Can I please get something from the gift shop?”

“The prices there are ridiculous,” Mom said. But she bought Mia a Princess Sing-Along backpack.

“What song did you like best?” Mia asked me.

“The last song,” I said.
