The tutorial in Student Example 5.4 suggests that the tutor is urging Abeyomi to work on the opening of his essay and make his opinion very explicit from the start, not shying away from putting forward a well-evidenced thesis that can be defended in the rest of the essay. This would be done via many arguments such as: the inclusion of many more hard-to-reach families who are needed for gauging the voice of diverse stakeholders; or the need for children and family services to remain part of the national debate on educational leadership standards; or any other argument that he may want to put forward. He is advised to provide a range of evidence for each argument that challenges or supports it, to show thoughtfulness, balance, reflection and criticality.
