CHAPTER 22

I can’t believe my eyes when I see the bunker for the first time. I wasn’t expecting something this big or this comfortable.

There is a large amethyst crystal off to one side, a decorative wooden box on the floor by the far wall, and a plinth with another wooden box on the opposite side of the bunker.

There is also a large seating area that can comfortably sit all of us, and the floors and walls have padding on them with the most amazing artwork on the walls, probably courtesy of Nix.

Mandy rearranged all my afternoon appointments, and after chatting with Doctor Wells, she has agreed to stay on. I’m pretty sure I’ll make her a partner in the practice soon. I left her and Mandy writing job adverts for a nurse and another receptionist.

I had lunch with Alfred and the family, and then there was a procession of cars out to the farm.

“Wow,” Alfred says, looking round. “This place is amazing.” He looks at Adhan. “No fair the witches have this place to play in.”

“I’m sure if we ask the witches nicely, we can shift and play here,” Adhan replies.

Ernest snorts. “Nope, you have woods. This is ours.”

John relented and let Ernest come with us. John was more than happy to cover the shop for the afternoon. Alfred also cancelled all afternoon meetings.

“You have an outside temple,” Kean points out.

“Fine, we can share,” he replies with a huff.

“I would have let you, anyway,” Titus says to Kean.

“I knew I loved you for a reason,” Kean replies, kissing his cheek.

I look at Alfred. “I would have let you, as well.”

He grins and wraps his arms around me.

I drop a kiss on his head.

“Now then, Witchlings,” Molly says. “Let’s call the quarters and protect the space so we can start.”

We all form a circle.

“Now, Darkling, you call South, Sonny you call East, Doc you call West, and I will call North. I’ll start.” Molly holds her arms out wide. “Guardian of the North, element of Earth, I call you here today to strengthen our protection around this sacred space. Power of Earth, lend us your strength.”

Titus goes next. “Guardian of the East, element of Air, I call you here today to strengthen our protection around this sacred space. Power of Air, lend us your knowledge.”

Sal goes next. “Guardian of the South, element of Fire, I call you here today to strengthen our protection around this sacred space. Power of Fire, lend us your courage.”

Now it is my turn. I hold out my arms and start. “Guardian of the West, element of Water, I call you here today to strengthen our protection around this sacred space. Power of Water, lend us your purity.”

“We ask the Lord and Lady and the Gods and Goddesses to protect our space and us, especially Saladin and Justice,” Molly says.

I watch as protection settles around the inside of the bunker.

“Now, Doc, Darkling, how do you want to do this?” Molly asks.
