“Is he showing you love? Is he being kind?

Could this be your soul mate?

Could this be an imposter?

What happens when the mask falls?

Who is he when he shows his face?

Will he stay by you when you drop yours?”

Mist rose and fell. My fallen angel was gone. We were adults again. Molly stood close. She was thinner too. How? I had no idea as things still surprised me in this fantastic world. Jewelled trinkets wrapped around her wrist. A silver shimmery dress adorned her body.

Ghostly violins made of smoke played with Scallywag’s steady drumbeat. Cole had a microphone. His voice reassured me with its deep tone as he belted out a disco tune.

Even the chocolate sea creatures flipped in time to the music. Janus let go of me and hovered as he danced. Camilla swayed in the arms of a man, and for a brief second, I thought he was someone I knew.

It felt relief just dancing for dancing’s sake. No meaning needed to interpret the song than simply shaking my bootie. I hadn’t felt this free in my own world since, well, I wasn’t sure when. I raised my arms and closed my eyes. I was me. Totally me. The song infused with my soul. I could breathe. This should never end!

Janus’s joyful neighing brought me back to the moment. My eyes flicked open and I displayed all my teeth in an oversized grin.

“Is this what you mean by finding myself?” My voice had its own melody.

No one replied. Molly winked, and Janus pretended to play the drums with his front legs.

The Detective twirled again, drilling himself into the floor. As for the captain, someone had his hands on her shoulders as they swung their hips in unison.

A hundred or so passengers feeling the groove on a ship on a chocolate sea with confectionary creatures and a mini horse flying near my head. And it all was real. A fantasy was my life. And I accepted it. Why would I go back to Harris? I was home now. Yes, I was home!

“The grand duchess knows more than she tells.” Olive recited this time. “But she doesn’t keep secrets.”

The ship rumbled and shook. Not enough to cause panic, but the passengers still moved swiftly to its edges. Smoke poured from the vessel’s funnel before taking shape into something quite different. A roof.

The Alchemist stood on its tiles; each leg balanced just below the peak of the sloping surfaces. He reached for his top hat and threw it spinning into the sky. At this moment his form changed. With a shimmery dress and trinkets on his arm, he was Molly.
