I was sitting out front on the steps of our apartment building while Levi tinkered with his dad’s motorcycle. He was fixing something I didn’t know about. I was hardly paying attention.

“So, Elliott is leaving for D.C. tomorrow,” Levi said as he twisted a wrench. “Ava’s dad and my dad are going with him.”

“Do you know if any of the other Pack Alphas are going?” I asked as I surfed the net on my phone.

“Uh … I think I heard that the Alphas from Texas, New York, and Washington were going. There might be more, but I’m not sure,” he answered with a grunt as he twisted the wrench with more force.

I glanced up from my phone. “Are Cordelia and Cassius going?”

Levi shook his head. “Cordelia is still a little messed up from the Compound. She’s in no shape to go anywhere. As for the vampires, it’s too far for them to travel, so only the vampires from the immediate D.C. area will go as representatives.”

“Probably for the best. Cassius is a loose cannon,” I smirked.

Levi wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. “Yeah, probably. But that loose cannon is what kept his clan alive.”

“True.” I leaned against the steps and blew out a breath, ready to divulge everything I’d learned over the past few days. “So … there’s some stuff I haven’t told you.”

Levi tensed and stopped what he was doing to sit up and look at me. “Like?” He raised a brow.

“Like how I figured out how to break the curse,” I replied nonchalantly.

His brows shot up to his hairline and he dropped his wrench. “Say what, now? You found out what?”

“But it’s not as easy as it sounds,” I quickly added. “I went to see Maggie again and she told me how to break it.”

He shook his head. “Well obliviously it’s not easy if she wasn’t able to break it in five hundred years,” he grunted.

“Facts.” I stood from the steps and started to pace. “She said the only way to break the curse was to get someone to fall in love with me.”

Levi frowned. “It can’t be that simple.”

I scoffed. “You think that’s simple?”

“Well …” He rolled his eyes. “I mean, I know it’s not simple, but there’s gotta be a catch.”

I pointed my finger at him like a gun. “You hit it right in the bullseye. There is.”

He sighed. “Figured.”

“The Seelie Queen and Fiona paid me a visit in my apartment last night.”

Levi shot to his feet. “Say what, now? They broke in?”

I nodded. “Yup.”

“What the hell, Joey? And you didn’t call for help?” he shouted. “I’m literally right next door! Bang on a wall or something!”

I chuckled. “Do you really think they came to hurt me?”

He huffed but didn’t say anything.

“Exactly,” I said. “She just wanted to intimidate me. It would have worked,” I shrugged, “until she spilled some very interesting information.”

“Like?”

“Like how the only way to break the curse is with the help of a seelie,” I said. “Apparently they have to ‘plant the seeds’,” I said, making air quotes.
