Chapter Fourteen

Garreth

I’ve never been bored sitting at home, but here I am, bored out of my fucking mind. Why? Because I know Reagan’s at work tonight, and I’m not there. I’m stuck here, and I don’t like it.

Usually I keep myself busy on my days off, but today has been a struggle. I’ve wanted nothing more than to go to her, but knowing she had to work tonight, I refrained. Instead, I resorted to texting her off and on, soaking up any ounce of contact from her I can get.

I’m so screwed.

Now, it’s almost six, and the walls are starting to close in on me. I’ve cleaned my kitchen and bathroom from top to bottom and took care of all yard work for the week. I’ve even washed my bedding—maybe with the hopes of Reagan joining me in my bed sometime in the near future.

My phone chimes with a text, and I practically trip over myself to get to it. I’m a little disappointed it’s not her name I see on the screen, but still pleasantly surprised to see my buddy Leo’s name displayed.

Leo and I were good friends in school, and while I went to college after graduation, he went into the military. He spent eighteen years in the Army, serving our country, and did more tours overseas than anyone else I know. He had always planned to make a career out of it, but on his last trip to Afghanistan, something went wrong, and several members of his team were killed. He ended up discharging and has been working as a mechanic ever since.
