“How are you liking your supper?” Ivy asks.

“Huh?” I say, looking up at her from where my attention was on my food as I push it around on my plate.

“Are you okay?” she asks with concern. “I kind of lost you after I mentioned Everlee’s heat.”

“Yeah. I’m fine,” I lie, picking at my potatoes and steak. When Ivy started talking about how Everlee is going to be taking a week off school soon for her heat, my mind started going all over the place. First, it started out with flashes from my own heat. How the pain consumed my whole body. How at one point I really thought I was dying. Then it jumped to seeing all four of them at their house, helping Ever through her heat while I’m at home, forgotten about.

I hate that I’m getting upset over this. She’s been their Omega for years. This is their life every month. Why should that change now that I’m a part of the pack? Although, right now, I don’t feel like a part of the pack.

My heat is in two weeks. Are they going to be too tired from Everlee’s heat to help me with mine? Will they even want to be a part of it or are we just not there yet?

“Spencer.” My head snaps up when I hear her next to me. “Come with me,” she says as she holds her hand out.

My chest feels like it’s caving in on itself, like my throat is closing in as I look up at her with a panicked look.

“Omega.” Her voice sounds so much like an Alpha right now. “Let’s get you out of here.”

I take her hand, trying to take deep breaths as my head gets dizzy. Of course, I’m going to have a panic attack during one of the best dates of my life.

Ivy pays before dragging me outside, down the sidewalk, and into an alley. “Spencer, breathe.”

“I’m trying,” I say as I start to hyperventilate. Squeezing my eyes shut, I try not to cry, knowing it’s going to make this so much worse.

“What’s wrong? How can I help?” Ivy asks, her worry not helping me in the slightest. “Fuck,” she growls.

I take deep breaths in and out, but it does nothing to help me as I close my eyes, trying to tell my brain that they’re working.

“Everlee.” The mention of her name has me opening my eyes. “He’s having an anxiety attack. I don’t know what to do.” I hate that she sounds upset and knowing that I’m making my Alpha that way adds to the pressure in my chest as she paces back and forth. “Okay.” She nods, stopping before me and handing me the phone. “Here, baby boy, Ever wants to talk to you.”

I take the phone from her with shaky hands and bring it to my ear. “Ever,” I choke out.

“Hi, my sweet boy. I know you feel like you can’t breathe, but you can. Let’s prove that silly brain of yours wrong and take some deep breaths for me.
