At the most basic level, the program for the International Center for Visiting Artists and Scholars is simple. It calls for two relatively large buildings and four small ones. The small ones are faculty houses, the largest one is the Center’s administrative facility and short-term lodging for visitors, and the intermediate-sized building is to house the dining hall, the kitchen, and the library-sitting room. This latter building is to be rather important for the Center in symbolic terms because it houses the primary rooms which bring the visiting scholars together with one another and with the University community.
