Felix slept into the day, and Kazi stayed with him, only leaving his bedside to check on a number of trucks that had pulled up outside. Builders erected an eight-foot-high construction fence around the house, creating the ruse that the Quaids were renovating.

Felix grumbled awake near dusk, asking for water and eyeing Kazi warily. By the time Kazi returned with a drink, Felix was up and in the shower. Kazi listened for a while, checking he was moving and hadn’t collapsed while in there, then left the glass of water on the bedside table and headed downstairs, giving Felix space.

Kazi had worked through a few things since last night.

He’d tell Felix everything, answer any question. He’d earned it. And if he wanted Kazi out of his life, he’d respect that.

Kazi tidied the mess in the kitchen and fixed a pot of coffee. The workmen had boarded up the broken windows and fixed the doors. But the gaping hole remained in the kitchen/living room wall. The Brotherhood would pay to right the house, making it as though nothing had happened. Kazi would make sure of it.

“Hey,” Felix croaked, wandering into the kitchen. He rubbed a towel over his damp hair. Slacks hung low off his hips, so low a small tug was all they’d need to fall. Droplets of water glistened on his chest, around a smattering of small, dark hairs.

Kazi averted his gaze and fought the sudden and violent desire to wrap Felix in his arms. The visceral need rocked him where he stood, banishing any thought that he might be able to resist the man’s inexplicable pull. He could no longer blame it on venom.

Kazi poured Felix a mug of coffee and slid it across the counter.

“Thanks.”

“How are you feeling?” Sipping his own coffee, he chanced a few glances. He looked good, a little pale. His heartbeat was strong.

Felix picked up his mug and carried it to the counter, then dumped a few spoonfuls of sugar into it. “Better than dead.”

The muscles of his naked back shifted in perfect symphony, and it was all Kazi could do not to imagine having the man under him while Kazi licked up his spine and buried his cock between his ass cheeks.

Felix was likely traumatized. He didn’t need Kazi coming on to him hard. Sex was probably the last thing on his mind. It should have been the last thing on Kazi’s mind, but the treat of seeing Felix half-naked was a wicked tease. He wanted the man’s legs spread around him, could imagine it so clearly it almost hurt.

“I take it Mikalis no longer wants me dead?”

“For now.”

Felix’s mouth flirted with a smile. He leaned against the counter and resumed sipping his hot drink, relaxed, comfortable. “I almost had him. He was goin’ down, one punch away from lights out, so…”

Kazi couldn’t stop his own smile. “I’m sorry I missed it.”

“I’m pretty sure I hit him with a frying pan. Probably a first for both of us.”

Kazi chuckled. He was certain nobody had ever hit Mikalis with a frying pan.
