“Are you sure about this?” I ask. I’m currently sitting on the floor in Grant’s giant closet that’s now overrun by four baby kittens. The most adorable balls of fluff I’ve ever seen.

“You didn’t want to leave them at the clinic by themselves, and I wasn't going to leave you there. This solves both of those problems.” He’s right. I hadn’t wanted to leave them there all alone. I couldn’t bear to think of them being scared. I’d even considered breaking the rules and taking them back to my apartment. But Grant had stepped in and saved the day by suggesting that all of us stay with him.

I get to my feet and go over to the door to give my handsome boyfriend a kiss. He’s standing right outside the closet on the other side of the gate he had put up so I could leave the door open without the kittens escaping.

“You’re so sweet.” I wrap my arms around his neck.

“Only for you.” He leans down, giving me another kiss.

I let out a small moan when he digs his fingers into my hair, deepening the kiss. When he pulls back, my lips feel puffy, and I’m a bit dazed.

“I need to check in on a few things.”

“Okay.” I reluctantly let him go. I love my job, but this is the first time I’m not in love with all the hours I work. I missed him all day. Luckily, the kittens kept me busy.

“I’ll be in my office for a little while, but I’ll hurry.”

“I’ll be good here.” I watch him go before I sit back down on the floor and play with my new fur balls. I’d always wanted a kitten of my own, and now I have four. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when it’s time to go back to my place. I wonder if Grant would let them stay here until my lease is up and I can find a new apartment. I think that’s my only option unless I keep them at the clinic. I hate that idea.

They all tumble around as I flick the stick with the feather hanging from it over their little heads. I was surprised when we arrived back at Grant's place and found everything you could ever imagine kittens would need had already been delivered.

I watch as one of the fur babies tries to jump to grab the feather but takes a tumble. Another actually passes out in the middle of playing. It doesn't take long until I’ve gotten them all tuckered out. I make sure everything is where it should be before I quietly slip out of the closet. I’ll have to work on giving them all names.

I pause when I notice a bunch of boxes lined up against one wall. How had I missed that before? I wander over, curious to know what they are but stop when I see that they’re all sealed up tight.

I make my way downstairs, already feeling hungry. I should ask Grant if he wants me to make him a snack as well.
