“Wanda, is she almost ready?” Arch stretched his neck as he waited outside the house.

“Running a little late,” came the reply from the comm unit in his ear. “But they’re hustling and trying to get her out on time.”

“Thanks, Wanda.”

“No prob, boss.”

Wanda Greene was one of their newer agents and had been with Lone Wolf for less than a year. She was also quite young, being only twenty years old, and so due to her inexperience and age, he had never thought to assign her to such a public-facing assignment. However, Arch knew her to be professional, and he only now realized what an advantage it was to have a female agent for this particular job. Wanda could shadow Renée anywhere she went and stay with her—even inside dressing rooms and bathrooms.

“All right, boys, she’s on the move,” Wanda informed them.

Arch straightened his shoulders and tugged at his suit jacket. The moment Renée walked out of the front door, his entire body tensed. She looked stunning in a long, sparkly gold gown that clung to every dip and curve on her body, the bare shoulders showing off her smooth dark copper skin. Her hair was pulled back, so a waterfall of light brown waves came down her back.

Tearing his eyes away from her, he signaled to St. Vincent. “Tell Jacob we’re on the way.”

Jacob and Blake had gone ahead to the theater in Hollywood where the awards ceremony was taking place. It was a movie awards show, one of the biggest in the world, and although Renée wasn’t nominated for anything, showing up there was important for her upcoming tour and album, not to mention, her career in general.

If Arch had his way, he would have her in a secure location until Dawson was found and in police custody, but unfortunately, it was not up to him.

But, he was going to do everything in his power to ensure she was safe.

After wading through L.A. traffic, they finally approached the awards ceremony venue and joined the long line of vehicles inching toward the red carpet. Jacob informed them they were in position at the entrance.

“Wow, looking good, Greene,” Jacob joked. “Red is your color.”

“Aww, are you jealous, Martin?” Wanda retorted. “I’ll swap you. You can wear the heels and push-up bra.” As part of Renée’s entourage, Wanda had also dressed up for the occasion.

“Let’s keep this channel open for important things, shall we, kids?” Morrison said drolly. “And … she’s walking to the front.”

Arch alighted from his SUV, his nose wrinkling. Too many people here. Too busy. Too noisy. There were barricades on one side where the press was positioned so they could interview and take pictures of the celebrities as they walked the red carpet. On the other side were bleachers for fans. According to Jacob, hundreds of them had shown up at dawn, waiting to get a good position so they could get a glimpse of all the famous actors and celebrities. It made for a chaotic scene, and it set his nerves on edge.
