Job sites
Remember the days of job ads placed in printed publications, like the newspaper (actually, some of you might not)? You can still find them, especially in trade journals, but theyâve pretty much been replaced by online listings.
But while there might be sites that are better than others, this changes year to year, and rather than try to figure out one or two job sites to peruse and re-peruse on a daily basis, I would suggest you think in terms of quantity, not quality: Scroll through them all. They come in all shapes and sizes:
â¢For general, large job sites that donât discriminate between job listings, your options might be sites like www.monster.com or www.jobsite.co.uk, or even LinkedIn.
â¢But keep in mind that many an employer wonât advertise in the aforementioned behomoths. They might advertise in another site like www.Idealist.org who attract younger, more âhipâ job seekers.
â¢Each industry usually has a job site or two specifically tailored to that field. Academics can search through www.higheredjobs.com, non-profit executives through https://philanthropy.com/jobs, and for tech jobs there has to be a dozen job sites. Find the ones that fit your field, and bookmark them in your web browser for daily perusing.
â¢Sometimes, specific industries even have job sites serving only one region, and only one field; such as www.nynp.biz/index.php/find-a-job, which lists only non-profit sector jobs, and in only the New York City area.
In short, donât find appropriate job sites using this book (I couldnât begin to list them all). Google should find them for you quite easily.
