At the end of April, we flew back to the East Coast for Liz's parents' fiftieth-anniversary party. Since we were already that far east, we decided to fly a bit further and spend a week in London. While there, we checked off several must-see tourist destinations and also dropped in on a couple of well-known music stores, where I was happy to find our books in stock.

The high point of the trip was an evening spent in a pub with the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. The UOGB was a group of very talented and dry-witted musicians who took great pleasure in performing material not normally associated with the ukulele. Everything from rock songs like the Talking Heads “Psycho Killer,” to the theme songs from Shaft and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I had been in touch with UOGB founder, George Hinchliffe, while compiling tracks for the Rhino CD and mentioned that we might be traveling to London. Once there, we arranged to meet in an upstairs room at the Empress of Russia Pub in Islington. Six members of the group turned out and I remember we performed for each other all night. In my journal, I wrote that they played Joni Mitchell's “A Case of You,” Nirvana's “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” three songs with “wild” in the title — “Running Wild,” “Wild Thing,” and “Born to Be Wild” and the song I put on the Rhino CD, “Johnny B. Goode.” We also established ties with UOGB member Peter Brooke Turner, who would visit us in Los Angeles in the future.
