I hope summer is treating you well. Alas, little has changed in the Yorkshire hills as far as I am concerned. Mother’s health continues to deteriorate due to old age, an ailment that will come to us all. I am saddened to see how she slows down, and she has lost most of her eyesight. She has to be accompanied by one of us everywhere she goes; her outings have, unfortunately, become rare occasions nowadays. I take long walks in the country daily, meeting no one but crows and field mice. Purple heather blankets the moor, reminding me of the lilac oft seen around Somerville. The colour and you are well-suited. The gown you wore last year to the summer ball in London attested to this. Seeing the flowers makes me long for you. I miss you so much.
