Chapter Thirteen

By early Monday evening, Harper had cleaned the bedroom to a professional standard. Luckily for her, the walls were painted with washable paint and the industrial cleaning liquid worked like magic. Checking that there was nothing incriminating on the camera footage, she discovered that Vadim was being truthful when he had said the cameras didn’t actually record: they were only live. Finally, she eyeballed every inch of the route she had used to drag the body parts, ensuring there were no traces of blood.

Wearing her wig and oversized glasses, Harper drove Claude’s car to Hasad’s garage, part of the Boz family’s business. She had learned in prison that many main roads were fitted with ANPR cameras, so she avoided those and stuck to the side streets. Reaching the garage after closing time, she searched for any CCTV cameras. It wasn’t worth taking any chances, so she circled the area a few times, before she parked the car directly in front of the premises.

The first part of her plan was in place. So far, so good.

After thoroughly wiping the interior of the car clean of potential DNA, she stuffed the wig, her sunglasses, and the silver tracksuit top inside a plastic bag, leaving just the tracksuit bottoms and a black T-shirt on before she turned the corner and headed to the bus stop to catch a bus back to Bromley, to her new place. She threw the plastic bag into a large communal bin, near to a block of flats, before she sprinted to catch the bus.
