Boyfriend of missing woman hid corpse in freezer as new girlfriend moved in

For one Ohio man, breaking up was hard to do, especially so around Valentine’s Day.

Holidays, experts say, are the worst times to end a relationship, because significant dates on a calendar like the holiday of love can lead to so much stress.

“Everything about the holidays reminds us of family, love and ritual,” Kathleen Hall, CEO of Atlanta’s Stress Institute, told Match.com. “We see emotional movies. We go to the mall and see lovers holding hands. We go to restaurants and see couples kissing and eating together. Holidays are a sensual time of smells, food, music, lights, and decorations. It is a time that we naturally want to share with another person.”

Splitting up would bring on so much anxiety, right? Especially if you’ve already got someone you like a whole lot more than your current partner.

Apparently, that’s what drove 31-year-old Arturo Novoa to skip the breakup talk and go straight to murder.

Instead of sitting down and having a sad Valentine’s Day talk with his girlfriend, 28-year-old Shannon Graves, police believe Novoa killed her, allegedly dismembering her body and putting it on ice.

Within a few months, Graves had moved a new girlfriend, 34-year-old Katrina Layton, in.

She, apparently, was aware of Graves’ death, because she had no trouble using all of the dead woman’s things, which were still filling at least half of Novoa’s apartment.

“Basically, Miss Layton moved in with Mr. Novoa and started living her life,” Youngstown Prosecutor Dana Lantz said at a news conference. “She didn’t hold herself out to be Shannon. She just lived her life, using her phone, caring for her dog.”
