Kate looked out a window on the front of the beach house. Peeking through the curtain, she could see that Detective Connolly had stuck to his word and posted a patrol car across the street.

Hurrying to get herself together for the day, Kate bounded down the steps in time to greet Nick before he could even rap his knuckles against the door. Surprised, Nick took a slight step backward.

“You’re ready to set off early this morning,” Nick said.

Kate looked at Nick, “I want to get to the station and see what they were able to pull off that P.I.’s phone.”

Nick looked displeased, grumbling, “Isn’t it time we let the police handle it?”

Kate scowled, “They weren’t handling finding Driscoll until we wrapped him up and delivered him with a bow.”

“Come on, they have rules to follow and procedures. They are doing what they can,” Nick said.

“I know. We are just helping them along a bit,” Kate smiled.

“Fine,” Nick’s head bobbed.

“I’ll drive. We’ll even pick up coffee along the way,” Kate offered, locking the door behind her.

Reluctantly, Nick followed her to the SUV and climbed in.
