CHAPTER 9
Liam
If I never saw the inside of a toilet close up again for the rest of my life, it would be too soon. Iâd hoped by now the morning sickness would have abated. Never mind that the name was completely false.
âPregnancy books were written by lying liars who lie,â I grumbled after I rinsed my mouth out for the thousandth time.
Mason chuckled and rubbed my back. âIâm sorry, baby,â he murmured and kissed my temple.
âYou should be,â I said, scowling, though there wasnât really any heat to it. âItâs your fault.â I poked him in the stomach.
His amused smirk in response did not help my mood.
I scowled harder. âYouâre not the least bit sorry. Youâre too proud of yourself for getting me pregnant in the first place.â
His smirk spread into a full grin, but he pulled me into his arms. âI wonât lie. Iâm thrilled I got you pregnant. I like saying it. I like thinking it, that youâreâyouâare carrying my pups.â
It was hard to stay mad when he said it like that.
âBut.â He tilted my face up so I was looking at him. âBut Iâd take away the misery in a heartbeat if I could.â
I blew out a breath. So much for my ire. âThat helps,â I mumbled, burying my face in his chest. I rubbed my cheek over his chest hair for a moment, then pulled back. âI just wish the âmorning sicknessâ would at least stick to one time of day. Instead of morning sickness and noon sickness and evening sickness and occasionally bedtime sickness. If itâs going to be evening, fine.â I sighed. âButâ¦.â
âI know, baby. I think you should talk to Dr. Phillips about it tomorrow.â
I nodded. I wasnât above begging for relief at this point. âI will. Hopefully thereâs something that will help. Iâd like to be able to keep food down.â Just as I finished talking, I yawned. âDammit, I just got my energy back and now Iâm tired again.â
Mason put a hand on my belly, already firm and slightly swollen. If I was right in my calculations, I was only a little over four weeks pregnant at this point. Granted, that equated to about eight for humans, but even so, I didnât know why Iâd be showing already. Unless Mason was right about the number⦠which I still wasnât quite ready to admit.
âGive yourself a break,â he said, kissing me. âYouâre knitting up three little lives. Iâd imagine that takes a lot of energy.â
I sighed again but was too tired to even argue over the number. âNo doubt. I just miss energy. Butâ¦.â I put my hands over his. âIâll deal with it for our pups. I should get to bed, though. My appointment is early, and Iâll have to get up and out earlier than usual.â
Mason kissed me before letting me go. âYou?â he asked as we went back into the bedroom. âThatâs we, baby.â
I pulled the covers back, then stood and blinked at him. âWe? Youâre going with me?â
âOf course I am.
