The Truth About the Trolls
There are so many things about my life as Mrs Hinch that are nothing short of amazing. And Iâm trying my very best, as much as I can, to focus my energy on those things. But there has also been a dark and completely devastating side to becoming âInsta-famousâ which you donât very often see me talk about.
And, to be honest, the true impact of it is something Iâm not massively comfortable about sharing.
Iâve never wanted the people who have hurt me so badly and caused me so many tears, stress and sleepless nights, to know just how deeply theyâve affected me and my family. Iâve never wanted to give them that satisfaction because I know their minds are so warped that they would probably feel like theyâd won. Iâm at the stage where I feel like my unhappiness would be like some sort of victory to them.
It would be wrong of me to pretend that everything is always perfect, because itâs definitely not, and the trolling from a small but relentless group of haters who, it seems, are set on taking me down, has been so horrific at times that I have decided itâs time for me to finally speak out and share with you the sorts of things I have been going through.
So, deep breath, Soph. Here goes.
The truth is, away from my life that you see on Instagram, these people have almost destroyed me, and the fact that I am on medication for depression and anxiety for the first time in my life is largely down to what they have put me through.
As I said earlier on, Iâm not ashamed to admit that Iâm on antidepressants. I donât think anyone should ever feel embarrassed to admit that they need help. But Iâm so sad that this is what itâs come to.
I know Iâm being watched by lots of people who love me (and who I love right back!) and that 98 per cent of those who follow me I am blessed to have in my life. But there are also others who make fun of me, pick apart everything I do, analyse every move I make and pull me apart for the things I say, for my appearance and for the way I speak.
These people flood my inbox with the most vile abuse. They direct-message me purely to attack me. They make cruel comments about my looks, they say my house is disgusting and they try and get me in trouble with industry regulators through egging each other on to report any of my posts where they think Iâve broken the rules, when I havenât. I will honestly never understand how they have the time to dedicate so much energy towards me. Can you imagine what they could be achieving if they redirected that energy and used it to do something positive in their own lives?
I understand now that I will never be able to do anything right in their eyes. For the
