“On my pussy!” I yell back, taking him off guard, and he loses focus and slows down. I let out a light laugh as I cross the finish line.

I know he meant the location of where he could kiss me after this, but after watching all those American movies and finally living in America, I’m saying things that would never come out of my mouth if I was living back home. America has liberated me, like I can be who I want without feeling judged or unequal. I’m standing next to the car when Aldin pulls up. His devious smile has me guessing he’s not thinking about how I won the race.

“We probably should get something to eat so you have plenty of energy for my massage. I like a good deep tissue massage, at least an hour long,” I say as he approaches me.

“Well, look at you, Julia. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who is more of an enigma than you.”

“Really? That’s good because most people shock the hell out of me.”

“By the way, I didn’t mean—”

“I know,” I say as I lift up on my tippy-toes and kiss him on the cheek. “I’m full of surprises, remember?” I walk past him to explore what other fun adventures we can discover.

An hour later, our bellies are full and our conversation is flowing.

“Oh my goodness, I’m so full,” I say as I sit back and touch my belly. We came to a lovely restaurant called Osage, and it literally sits on top of a huge rock with a view of the Ozark Mountains. The atmosphere is inviting with the vast windows surrounding us, along with a massive fireplace in the middle of the main dining area. We didn’t know the restaurant closed at nine, so we made it just in time when we showed up at eight o’clock.

“Where the heck do you put all that food?” he asks.

I take a sip of water before answering. “Back home, we didn’t eat these huge portions. It was more like French portions. The portions here in America are enormous.”

“Back home, you mean Utah?” he says with an arched eyebrow, and my muscles twitch when I realize what I’ve just said.

“Y-yeah, Utah. It never felt like I grew up here since I was raised by Lebanese Mormons, remember?” I force myself to let out a light laugh as I take another sip of my water, but he doesn’t take his eyes off of me. Instead, he narrows his gaze at me until I feel a thickness in my throat, so I chug down more water.

“Thirsty?” he asks as I place my glass down.

“Yeah, long day.”

“How about we get out of here and get a drink back in the room? I do owe you a massage.” He smiles, and my insides nearly do a summersault. For the first time, I want to be alone with a man, but not any man—Aldin Aziz.
