“Sal! Open the door! Sal!” Grey yelled, until he gave up waiting for an answer and used his shoulder to break the door open, only to find her slumped on the tile, her head at an awkward angle.

He dragged her upward and sat on the toilet seat, pulling her into his arms, pressing her head against his shoulder. Lifting her wrist, he felt for a pulse and found one, steady as a rock. Breathing a sigh of relief, he kept her close, reluctant to let her go.

“Jesus and a can of Spam, what the fuck was that?” Nina crowed from outside the door as everyone gathered to see what had happened.

Grey held her close, inhaling her scent, waiting for her to wake up. “I think that was the death scream she once told me about. They’re hard on her.”

Nina stuck a finger in her ear and said, “Fuck, I think my eardrums exploded. Is she okay?”

Hoisting her up off the floor, he nodded. “I think she’ll be okay, though the last vision she had, the one of Samantha dying, left her blacked out for two days, according to her.”

Marty gasped and pushed to door wide open, her eyes full of concern. “Bring her out to the couch, Grey. I’ll get something cool to put on her head.”

Grey scooped her up with ease, wending his way out of the bathroom and back into the living room, where he set her on the couch and Wanda put pillows under her head.

“What do we do?” Wanda fretted, folding and unfolding her hands. “How do we help her?”

Grey shook his head. He knew this was a normal occurrence for Sal, but for everyone around her, it was damn scary. “I don’t know. If I recall correctly, she has to wake up on her own. She once told me Samantha always made sure she was tucked safely in bed with Buttercup by her side before she’d leave their apartment. But basically, she’s just in a deep slumber. She’s not hurting in any way.”

“These visions—care to explain what exactly happens besides her passing out?” Heath asked, handing Grey a cup of strong black coffee.

Grey liked Heath. He appeared solid and trustworthy and very much in love with his beautiful wife. That he didn’t say a word of protest about her involvement with this OOPS or all the danger she so selflessly put herself in made Grey admire him even more.

It took a strong man to let a woman pursue what gave her purpose when her purpose was so dangerous.

He liked Greg and Keegan, too. They’d all arrived today to check on their respective wives at the break of day, bringing their children with them. Both prepared to do whatever they could to help the Jeffersons.

Grey looked at Heath, his eyes grim. “I don’t know a lot about them, to be honest. I know she has them and they’re very real. Almost as though she’s experiencing them, too. They take their toll on her, exhaust her, and obviously they’re unpleasant at their best, terrifying at their worst.
