Chapter 14- Amelia
Waking up in yet another bed, I almost couldnât believe myself when my memories of the previous night started flooding back.
The Darragh from last night had been nothing like the cold killer who only looked at me with distrust and suspicion, and too much like that initial chuckling stranger I met. Worse, there was a dangerous edge to him that I just couldnât resist.
From his marble jaw, to that long luscious hair and those frosty eyes that watched me like a hawk, that let me know that even if he had a stony exterior there was something darker lurking inside, something that wanted.
And of course, I couldnât even resist his scent, I couldnât resist the temptation of all of his attention on me.
See me. Just see me.
Want me.
Clearly, there was something wrong with me. Iâd seen this man decapitate a wizard. I was well aware of how cold and ruthless Fae Knights were.
And yet here I was, heart fluttering like a virginâs, feeling my core turn molten at all the ideas I got from his stern tone last night.
He was a blond-haired beautiful snake waiting to strike, and I was just stupid enough to would fall right into his trap.
He made me want to admit to things that I definitely didnât want to admit to. I was a twenty-five-year-old independent woman, damn it, I didnât want a damned Fae Knight taking care of me.
And still, Iâd been so grateful when he ordered me to do things, I almost wanted to cry.
I wanted to cry at the vulnerable feeling of him taking care of me, seeing how much I needed it, how much I wanted him to just shut my mind off and tell me what to do.
But could I trust this? That it wasnât some sort of game he was playing, that he actually cared and wasnât about to tear my heart in half?
I heard him get up beside me and go to the bathing chamber in his room. I was about to get up, ready to go change when he came out, ready for some sort of continuation of last night, against all sense.
But his face was cold as stone as he walked out.
I knew, then and there, that this blond-haired asshole was going to ruin this.
âWe need to talk,â he said, standing as far away from me and the bed as possible.
It was almost laughable.
âSo talk.â
I wasnât going to do this easy for him.
No, sir.
âWhat happened last night⦠it canât happen again.â His face was impassive, like a statueâs, cruel in its beauty. âIt was a mistake. We canât get distracted right now with so many threats in the game. I know youâre hurting, but it will only make it harder in the end.â
It would only make it harder when I had to go back to my little and miserable life.
âYou pity me,â I said flatly, but I felt like my chest was constricting.
âNo,â he said strongly, but I didnât believe him.
âYes, you do.â I pushed the furs and covers away and got up, ready to get the fuck out.
