FOR RELEASE FROM DEMONS
“Send her away,” the disciples begged Jesus, “for she cries out after us.” 71
Who was this woman? She was a foreigner, a “woman of Canaan” from the region of Tyre and Sidon. But she came to Jesus “and cried out to Him, saying, ‘Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon- possessed.”
At first, Jesus didn’t help her. He delayed His response

by saying He was sent only “to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
This only intensified her crying. “Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘Lord, help me!’ ”
Still Jesus delayed. “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs,” He told her.
But she would not be quieted until her cry was answered. “Yes, Lord,” she said, “yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.”
And her daughter was healed from that very hour. 72
Jesus’ disciples might have thought of this woman as only a noisy, bothersome peSt, but Jesus responded to her cry, granting her daughter’s release from the grip of demons.
FOR QUENCHING OUR SPIRITUAL THIRST
After crossing the Red Sea, the people of Israel traveled three days into the wilderness without finding water. Finally they found some—but it was bitter and undrinkable. Then Moses “cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree.” Moses cast a branch or limb from this tree into the waters, “and the waters were made sweet.” 73
This can be spiritually true for us on many stirring occasions—in our soul-thirst we’ll cry out For inner filling,
and the Holy Spirit will draw our inward attention to the One “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness.” 74 Then our eyes of faith will see that Christ is our all and our everything, the source and supply of our every satisfaction in time of need.
