The next morning Desi was preparing breakfast while Erin finished getting ready for work. Joe was outside doing his business when Erin walked in and kissed Desi on the cheek.

“Thanks for bringing me coffee. Oh, you’re making breakfast, too! See, this is exactly why we need to live together,” Erin said, sitting down at the table.

“Before you get too excited, this isn’t much.” She set a bowl of yogurt topped with pecans and strawberries in front of Erin. The toaster dinged signaling the English muffin was ready. “I thought we could share this. Here are your favorite peach preserves,” Desi added, opening the jar for Erin.

“Wow, a girl could get used to this.” Erin winked at Desi.

Desi smiled back at her and began to spread grape jelly on her half of the muffin. Before taking a bite she said, “Do you want me to call Olivia and set up an appointment for us to talk about a house?”

“That would be great. Maybe we could have them over for dinner.”

“Okay, I’ll call her and see what she suggests.” She noticed Erin smiling at her. “What? Is everything okay? Your yogurt sweet enough? I can add more honey.”

“Everything is perfect, babe. I don’t know how many times we’ve had breakfast like this but for some reason it feels different today. It feels like the beginning of this wonderful life together. Does it to you?”

Desi chuckled. “It feels like the quiet before the storm. When our baby gets here this will likely all change.”

“I know that’s right.” Erin laughed too.

“But I get it, I feel it too. I will likely be remembering last night all day long,” she added, taking Erin’s hand and kissing her palm before placing it on her cheek and holding it there.

“I won’t be able to focus today if I keep remembering last night.”

Desi returned her hand and looked at her watch. “I’ve got to get going, babe. This spin class I have first thing is hard core.”

“Hey, when’s our first volleyball game?

“Tomorrow. Aren’t you doing yoga with Stella after work? We can practice when you get finished, if you want.”

“I do. My serve needs a little work. It was bad last week.”

“No it wasn’t,” Desi said, getting up and letting Joe in the back door. “Bye buddy, I have to go to work. You be a good boy today.” After petting him, she turned back to Erin, holding her face in her hands. “And you, my beautiful baby mama. Have a wonderful day. I’ll call you after I talk to Olivia.” Then she kissed her soundly on the mouth.

She started to leave and turned around. “I have to have one more of those.” She bent down and kissed Erin again, this time softly.

“Go! I don’t want irate spinners coming after me.”

“Irate spinners. You’re a hoot, babe,” she said, walking out the door.

“Oh Joey, how did we get so lucky,” Erin murmured as they both stared at the closed door.
