CHAPTER 17
LILLIAN:
âHey Jilly Ha- this is your girl, Lilly... remember me from the party the other day? The one with theâ
âYep, right, thatâs me!â
âUh-huhâ
âWhatâs that now?â
âI canât call you Jilly?â
âUh-huhâ
âOkay, fine. Then Iâll be formal too. Itâs your girl Lillian, not Lilly then.â
âLook, so I bet youâre wondering why Iâm calling you like an old person. Itâs because Iâll be in my autocar really soon and you know their silly rules on distracted emergency drivers.â
âRight? Gee Jillian. What should we do about these regulations?â
âOkay, well, anyway. Iâm on my way to a protest. Iâm protesting the pill.â
âYou knowâ"
âYep, those ones. The pills that make us not do that thing.â
âWhat was it called?â
âOh yeah, thanks! Hiccup! We no longer have to do that hiccup thing anymore because of that pill. My mom had me take it when I was young. But my child? Never.â
âYeah, girl, you didnât know!? I have a baby girl, Sillian. We just call her Silly. Sheâll be 25 months old next year.â
âYes, yes, I know thatâs technically two years old. Butâ"
âOkay, look, never mind. My point is that ever since we stopped hiccuping, the Glutatribe race has just popped up!â
âYou know, the rare race of humanoids. The tragic subspecies.â
âSee, I knew you knew!â
âHa ha, youâre funny Jillian. But letâs get back to the Lillian thoughtsâmy thoughts.â
âHave you seen how many Glutatribes are out there now, ever since weâve stopped being able to hiccup? Thereâs a correlation. I know there is. This is why Iâm forming a protest.â
âYes, Jillian, you got it! Itâs a protest that my Serotribe daughter doesn't have to take the pill. Iâd rather have her hiccup for a bit than turn into a Glutatribe. And I should have that right to do so!â
âYesâ
âUh-huh.â
âUh-huh.â
âSo Jillian, are you interested in joining your girl Lillian on a protest to protect children like Sillian?â
âNo?â
âWhy?â
âUh-huh.â
âUh-huh.â
âOkay, I know. Iâm sorry I asked you last minute. I promise I do want you to come.â
âWhatâs that now?â
âYou can come late?â
âOh wow! How wonderful! Look, I very much look forward to seeing you there. Weâll meet a few minutes from the Weg-bots and that autocar dealership. Iâm sure you have enough money to take the autobus, right?â
âThe autobuses are down? Why?!â
âNo way! A hacking? Again? These kids have no self-control. I bet itâs also because of those hiccup pills. They justâ
âOh, whatâs that now?â
âYou donât think so?â
âWell, I donât really know if the hiccup pills cause disobedience. I was just being facetious. It was a joke. You know aâ
âOkay, so Iâll meet you there. Okay, great. Iâm heading to my autocar now. Iâm going to make some more phone calls to see who else can meet us there.â
âOh! One more thing, Lillian.â
âI was wondering if you could look after my daughter, you know, Sillian, for a few days. Brad and I want to go to this party andâ
âHello?â
âHello?â
Hm. The call must have dropped. Time to make my second call.
âAutocar?â
Autocar: Yes
Lilly: This is Lilly.
Autocar: Hi Lilly.
Lilly: Yes, hello to you too. So autocar. I need you to do me a favor.
