Addison

My head leans on the passenger window as Cruz rambles incessantly.

“I’m surprised I made it to the end of the night. Corporate people are so stiff and formal,” he complains.

Lights move by fast. At the same time, my head spins. I’d lost count of just how much I drank throughout the night, and after I walked out of the empty ballroom, I drank even more just to get through the night.

Masen stayed at the opposite end of the room, keeping his distance and barely looking my way. His date, Ariel, hovered beside him at all times until he made his usual phantom move and disappeared without a goodbye.

It only angered me further, so I drank and drank, allowing Haden to serve me shots. When Dad pulled one off me, I knew I had to stop. His judgment is enough to make anyone stop.

Now, I’m paying the price, and Cruz’s erratic driving is causing my stomach to flip into a nauseous wave.

“Addy, you look—”

“Don’t say it, okay?”

“Drunk,” he blurts out, unapologetic. “What was with you tonight?”

I stare out the window again. “I don’t know.”

Cruz pulls into the garage at the same time I cover my mouth, then swiftly open the door in time to throw up all over the floor.

“Jesus Christ, Addy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this wasted.”

My head continues to spin, forcing Cruz to carry me all the way to the apartment. When we get inside, he suggests I shower, but I’m too tired, desperate for bed.

As soon as I hit the pillow, my eyes fall shut.

I turn my body onto my side, moaning through the aches ripping through my entire body. The room is bright, indicating it’s daylight. Somehow, I manage to stumble to the kitchen in hopes of finding some Advil and a fresh brew of coffee.

“Good morning, sunshine.”

‘You’re too loud,” I grumble.

“Okay, sorry,” he says in a quieter tone. “What do you want? Breakfast? Advil? Coffee?”

My arms are sitting on the table, so I rest my head on them and close my eyes. “All of the above.”

“Coming right up.”

Cruz does his best-friend duty, turning on the coffee machine and whipping up some breakfast. I manage to drink, eat, and stay awake for the entire duration. After I’m done, I head back to bed again, only to wake up around midday.

This time, I feel much better. With nothing else to do, I take a quick shower then settle on the couch and stream some shows. Cruz snuggles beside me, arguing over my choices since he wants action or at least a thriller.

On the coffee table, my phone is pinging like crazy. Of course, the group chat.

Ava: Is there something you want to tell us, Addy?
