Chapter Six

Jaxon Stormer

I've watched this client quite frequently over the last couple weeks. I'm stuck to her ass like glue. Michael Stone might not have felt the need to pass on Ryder St. James' cryptic messages, but he sure as fuck took them seriously.

People look at me and see a mountain of a man. They think braun, not brains. Which is fine.

I enjoy being underestimated. Let them undervalue the threat I pose. This job isn't close contact—it's very eyes in the sky. Which quite frankly, I prefer.

The curvy little omega slips out of the door. Bolting down the hallway, she heads my direction. Not one of her core team follows her.

I sigh. Granted, she's only got two guys with her at the moment, but what the hell?

They're too close to the client. The easy camaraderie is plain to see on the videos. This job is a cakewalk. What the fuck is wrong with these guys?

Frowning, I watch an overly tanned older copy of the client, follow her out. Glancing at the other screen, I can see Griffin is blocking the camera guy. Jones is keeping the other dudes at bay.

Neither one decides to follow the omega? Fucking excellent plan, guys.

This is why they're meant to be a team of three.

Lyric darts down the hallway, trying doors. She's desperate to get away from that chick. She ducks into the control room next to the room I'm sitting in.

I frown. I don't have eyes in that room.

I saunter through the connecting door to see Lyric Sinclair trembling against the closed door.

"Yo, whatcha doing?" I ask. My voice is loud echoing over the equipment.

She flies at me. "Shh, I'm hiding. We're hiding. So be quiet." She pauses and adds, "Please."

I've always been massive. The year I turned twelve, I got bigger than my dad and people took notice. Not many would try to take me on. I'm used to being the biggest guy in a room. I've had pro-football clients look average size standing next to me.

When the five-and-a-half-foot omega rushes me, I stumble back. It's not exactly my proudest moment, but I brush that shit off.

"Oh good, yes,” she whispers, nodding. "You're bigger, you block the door."

I scowl at her, but I listen. Shutting the connecting door, I stride over to block the hall entrance. Crossing my arms, I raise an eyebrow.

She trembles, the smell of fear is heavy around her. Her eyes bounce around the control room taking in the sound boards and equipment.

Is she afraid of me?

"You work here?" she whispers, after a minute she shakes her head like duh, of course. "Sorry, I'm usually not so awkward.”

Frowning, she adds, "Actually, I can't even lie. Maybe I am."

I chuckle a low throaty sound. At least she's honest.

Michael Stone warned me about this job. He told me very clearly that I'm last line defense. He's aware the majority of her team is too close.

There are pros and cons to the situation, or so Stone said. They might miss something being too
