DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
Fort Myers’ nightlife scene is small but constantly changing, and you’ll usually find some lively bars on a stroll through downtown or along Estero Boulevard in Fort Myers Beach; alternatively, check downtownftmyers.com for more options. There’s also an LGBT+ scene in the city.
The Cigar Bar 1502 Hendry St 239 337 4662, worldfamouscigarbar.com; map. Laidback yet stylish bar, filled with leather chesterfields and mounted bison and bear heads (often sporting cigars themselves). Choose from a huge range of bourbons, single malts and smokes. Mon–Sat 10am–2am, Sun noon–2am.
City Tavern 2206 Bay St 239 226 1133, mycitytavern.com; map. Downtown in the River District, this tavern has a great happy hour that runs from 11am to 7pm and a busy scene until the wee hours of the morning, as well as live music at weekends. There are also plentiful flatbreads and sandwiches (including four types of grilled cheese) should you need to soak up some of the booze. Daily 11am–2am.
Cowboy Up Saloon 1611 Hendry St 239 980 7630; map. Live country music, line dancing, bar top boogies, saloon doors and shot specials combine to offer up a semi-realistic taste of the Wild West. Tues–Sun 5pm–2am.
Rascals 3758 S Cleveland Ave, 239 931 9976, rascalsfortmyers.com; map. The veritable rainbow of themed nights at this much-loved LGBT+ bar will not disappoint – think topless Thursdays, bingo Saturdays, hunk of the week Tuesdays and billiard ball Wednesdays. The drinks are just as robust as the entertainment. Daily noon–2am.
Smokin’ Oyster Brewery 340 Old San Carlos Blvd 239 463 3474, smokinoyster.com; map. Known by locals as “SOB”, this place has live music every night on the deck outside, as well as a tasty menu, heavy on the bivalves and crustaceans. Mon–Thurs & Sun 11am–11pm, Fri & Sat 11am–11.30pm.
