≈ 17 A Turn

I intended to write about all of my second year of work on the abuse, as I have written about the first. But it turned out that I could not. I reread my journals of that time, a four-inch stack of spiral-bound notebooks with dense scribbling almost every day. I flagged the passages that were important, little post-its in bright colors, with notes like, “I dream that I have to take care of an old man and get him out of the house before the house falls down,” and “Hypervigilance, I have to be alert all the time at work.”
