Chapter 7
A Family Time
I couldn’t explain how I felt when Blake told me what they had found out and what it meant. I wondered how I had failed to see it, I was supposed to be a dream seer after all. I had been a white wolf nearly a year now and while my abilities had grown, they weren’t nearly as powerful or worthwhile as what I had expected based on what the council members had told me. Sonya, the first white wolf had been so much more than I could ever hope to be. Was it that I lacked self worth or self confidence? I didn’t think it was that but maybe my expectations had built up too much to ever be matched by reality.
I didn’t need to be a legend or a hero, but I did need someone of amazing powers to safe guard my beautiful child since the evil chasing us seemed to just grow in strength each time they targeted me and mine. Had Danny, the son I never thought would have any ‘super powers’ not made the change and developed a wonderful ability, the attack might have succeeded. Danny had come home for Christmas this year a newly mated, newly changed alpha wolf. He wasn’t the same boy who had left here, he had matured and become a grown male. I was equally proud of what he had become and scared of what he might do.
Don’t get me wrong, I believed Hemple needed to pay for all the evil he had done, but I didn’t want one of my sons to be the one that risked it all to try. I wasn’t a hypocrite, I would gladly fight him myself with no second thoughts. No, I was a mother who could remember the moment that beautiful, precious babe was placed in my arms. I stayed up all night awake when he was teething, I kissed his hurts away, I bathed him, changed him, and took him to school everyday. It went against everything inside me to let him risk his life if there were anyway to prevent it.
Now he and Matt would both be at risk along with Blake and I would go as well, no one would stop me. But Danny, if he survived this mission, would risked his life again against Hemple who everyone knew would cheat if there were any way to do it. It made me feel an ache in my heart that he had changed to be this strong, confident wolf that would now have a chance to be something he had always wanted to be only to risk his future twice.
Blake pulled me to him, his well muscled body hard but I found comfort resting on his soft skin. He soothed me with his touch and his scent, calming me with his whispered words. It was like an accident of fate that I had found this perfect wolf, he had given me a second chance at love and a new life.
