The moment they jumped off the ski lift taking them from the parking lot, Olivia headed straight to the kitchens. While the police were out searching for Andrew Shaw, it was the perfect time for them to start working other avenues. Olivia had put off speaking to Harrison, not wanting to interview him first and let him know he was on their radar. He likely already knew that fingers were pointing his way, but he wasn’t going to be happy about being told that. Besides, ever since she’d been made aware of his argument with Regina, she had been waiting for someone to say something negative about him, but no one had. None of the staff brought him up in their interviews or claimed to be worried about his behavior, so in many ways, he looked innocent to Olivia.

But she couldn’t deny that it was odd that Regina was poisoned so soon after her argument with the chef, especially after she claimed that his food tasted odd. Plus, he was the only suspect they had so far that had a connection of sorts to Brenda as well. Olivia knew that it was looking less likely that it was the chef now that she was aware that the poison had been in the pill bottle, but she wanted to follow up on the lead anyway. She wasn’t leaving any avenue unexplored.

They found Harrison Leith in the kitchens. Olivia had only seen him once around the lodge, when he’d finished a shift at midnight and passed by her in the corridor, his face like thunder. He was a ruggedly handsome man with red hair and a slightly overgrown beard. His eyes were like ice, but his gaze would be cold no matter the color of his eyes. He spotted Olivia and Brock across the room, and his face hardened. By now, he knew why they were there. He wasn’t going to make this easy on them, Olivia was certain.

“You should be wearing hairnets in the kitchens,” he said gruffly. “It’s unhygienic.”

“Apologies, Mr. Leith. It’s just that you never seem to be out of the kitchen to chat with us,” Brock said tenderly. “Maybe you’d be willing to step out for ten minutes to speak with us?”

“I’m busy. I’ve got fifty people to feed in an hour,” Harrison snapped. Olivia folded her arms over her chest.

“It wasn’t a request. We need to talk to you about what has gone on in this place, and we need to do it now. You’ve sidestepped this for long enough, so don’t make this harder than it needs to be. Step outside, please.”

Harrison hesitated for a few moments before letting out a grunt and thrusting a spatula into the hands of one of the sous chefs. “Hold the fort,” he called over his shoulder. “I’ll be back.”

The closer Harrison got, the taller he seemed, and as Olivia left the kitchens, she could feel his shadow towering over her. She led them through to the bar, which was mostly empty.
