Chapter Fourteen

I braid my dark hair so that it falls down my back and realize that the red is almost gone. Wonder if any of those berries are around here? I quickly brush my teeth and rush to the banquet hall. I find that Jacob and Owen are already there eating breakfast, so I make my plate and head to a vacant table. When I’m about halfway done, Owen makes his way over to me.

He slides into the seat across from me. “So, you finally decided to get up?”

“Yeah, I figured it was about time.”

I take the last few bites of my food and quickly stand up.

He rises, too, and frowns. “You didn’t have to rush.”

I shrug and clean up my mess. “No, it’s okay. I’m actually really ready to train.”

He nods, and I follow him out the door.

We walk past the lake and away from the village. I’m wondering where he is taking me, and soon, another clear patch opens up in the forest.

There is Willow, sitting on the ground, waiting for us. She purses her lips. “Well, hello. It’s about time you both got here.”

I’m about to speak up, but Owen beats me to the punch. “Sorry. I was up late with an issue and then just had a slow beginning. It won’t happen again.”

She nods, but her attention is on me. “So, a little birdie told me you had some powers. I would love to see what you can do.”

I’m about to deny it but figure, if this is what they need me to do to earn my keep, well, I’ll suck it up. I nod, and she grins.

She walks over to gather a larger stick and lays it down a few feet in front of me. “Now, I want to see you pick only that stick up.”

Owen scoffs, but I just ignore him. I’ll prove him wrong. I connect to my power and ask it to help with the branch. The churning starts, and soon, I have the branch up in the air with nothing else blowing in the air around it.

Owen gasps.

Willow grins, her eyes filled with excitement. “Excellent. It’s time to really begin.”
