Chapter Twenty-one

“Mmm, baby… that hit the spot,” I said, licking my fingers.

“Sure did if I do say so myself. You finished?” Cam asked, motioning for my napkin-littered plate. I loved when he made pancakes for breakfast.

We came to my apartment after I finished up working at the lab late last night. I always loved the mornings after Cam stayed the night because he always made something hearty and delicious for breakfast. For some reason, I loved seeing him at work in my kitchen and moving about as if he was in his own. Thinking about how comfortable he felt here made my heart flutter.

“In every way, yes.” I winked at Cam and giggled.

“Ew, you guys are so freakin’ gross, dude,” Rea groaned as she feigned gagging with a finger in her mouth. “My virgin ears!”

Cam and I laughed as we leaned into each other. Rea was a lot of things, but virginal in any fashion, was not one of them. He took our plates to the sink and rinsed them off to put them in the dishwasher. I came up behind him, wrapping my arms around him and ran my hands up and down his chest and abs.

I sighed happily. “Sweet Christmas, this will never get old…”

“Alright, I’m out of here. You guys are making me want to hurl from all of your lovey-dovey-ness and making me incredibly sexually frustrated at the same damn time.” Rea picked up her phone and stormed out of the kitchen.

Cam lifted a brow and turned back to look at me, “What’s her deal? She still hasn’t boned her boss yet?”

“No, she has. They’re just in a weird spot right now. She’s as stubborn as he is, and it shows.” I chuckled.

“I heard that!” she shouted from her room.

“Well, just calling it like I see it!” I shouted back.

Cam shook his head, and I could hear the grin in his voice. “Sophia and Blanche, I swear.”

My eyes widened, “There is no way you watch The Golden Girls.”

“My Gram did. I spent some time with her, so Sam and I are actually quite well-versed on our ‘80s and ‘90s pop culture trivia, thank you very much.” He pecked a kiss to my forehead. “How’s Jamal these days? I haven’t seen him in a bit.”

I tilted my head, a bemused smile crossing my lips. “Wow. I am honestly pleasantly surprised by that revelation.” I leaned against the kitchen counter and continued, “Jamal and Alejandro are in wedding planning bliss—or shall I say, sometimes-misery because they can’t agree on which tuxes to go with. I’m really excited about the wedding though, especially their winter wonderland theme,” I explained.

“Yeah, I am too. They seem perfect for each other,” he responded.

“Hey, speaking of, Jamal asked me to confirm that you are indeed my plus-one?” I for some reason couldn’t look at him as I asked him that question. Cam turned off the faucet and grabbed a dish towel, then turned around as he dried his hands off and tossed it onto the counter behind him.
