“Ye must be bloody mad if ye think I’m gonna go in there first, Arlon,” Yulin said stubbornly to his companion “That bloody demon’ll fry me for sure!”

Arlon swore and gave Yulin a rough shove towards the cell door. “If ye don’t get your sorry ass in there, then King Roderick’ll fry ye instead! There’s something funny happenin’ in there, I tell ye.”

“Ye heard it, so how come I have t’ go first?” Yulin complained.

“Because I said so, that’s why, so stop whining. Blazing tits, ye sound worse than me two-summers-old brat!”

“I don’t!” Yulin growled, insulted.

Arlon didn’t even bother to honor him with a reply. With an oath, he pushed past Yulin and touched the spell-lock of the door in the right sequence in order to banish the shield around the door. A brilliant light flashed for a beat and was gone before he could even blink. Then, still muttering, he flung the door open and peered into the gloom within—and let out a sharp gasp.

“What, what?” Yulin demanded, pushing Arlon aside to peer inside.

The cell was empty.
