Many people wonder how super-successful dog trainers get such amazing results. The truth is, all successful dog trainers follow these principles, and they practise a great deal. A big part of dog-training success is simply turning up, putting in the hours. Spend some time really understanding the principles of how dogs learn as well as teaching him. Read as much about dog training as you can. You’ll find some great resources in the back of this book. Join my online forum for support and help from other Labrador owners from all over the world. Then practise and practise your basic training techniques. Become proficient with a clicker and a lure. It doesn’t take long, and if you start off practising with a few simple tricks, you’ll be thoroughly competent by the time you come to training the important stuff. Just remember, to the dog, it’s all a game. He’ll be happy just to play along.
