The glass started to rattle in the wooden frame beneath her fingertips. The frame was light, maybe too light, and Alex braced herself for it to completely shatter. Her magic rippled around across the reflective surface, forming tiny fractals of gray. Then the magic settled into the mirror, twisting across the top like oil over water. It wouldn’t hold the magic for long, but an image was forming as Alex’s own visage blurred out.

It looked like some sort of hotel room. Boring but comfortable, with neutral earth tone comforters and pillows on the bed beyond the mirror. There was a duffle bag open with some clothing visible, but nothing more. Her mouth went dry. That wasn’t her room. Not at all. Licking her lips, she nervously held back her glee and considered pulling away. This was too fast, too impulsive. She hadn’t considered this. Morgana was going to kill her.
