How Can We Do Better? Finding Cyber Peace in the Internet of Things

Making predictions is generally a somewhat foolhardy endeavor, especially in a field as dynamic as the Internet of Things (IoT), but history can be a useful guide. After all, according to George Savile, Marquis of Halifax, “The best qualification of a prophet is to have a good memory.”1 As such, this final chapter calls upon us to take out the crystal ball (however opaque it may be) to look into where our hyperconnected world may be headed, but also to look back to see how we can bend the curves by using old tools like insurance, and new technologies like blockchain and machine learning, to help ensure some measure of cyber peace. We conclude with a call to action for what more we all can do to help ensure that a fully realized Internet of Everything (IoE) is a future in which we can live, and even thrive.
