GABRIEL
Drinking in the sight of her standing there next to her sonâno, our sonâstole my breath. She was sheathed in a silk wedding gown that moved with her, swishing around her legs with every step. She'd tamed her hair into soft curls that hung around her shoulders, and she wore a flower crown that matched the ones hanging off the arch behind me.
She was perfection.
Harley, the pack's Alpha, sat next to her mate in the front row, looking giddy over the events unfolding in front of her. She kept clapping her hands together with excitement and then holding her massive belly. Once she got over her initial awe, she waved her hands, and one of the male members began playing a soft tune on a lute as Ebony walked toward me.
The closer she got, the more the rest of the pack disappeared around me, and it felt like it was just us.
When she reached the arch, Damien stepped around us to position himself in the officiant's spot as I reached out to cup Ebony's cheek and pulled her to me, kissing her deeply.
"I'm sorry, I had to. You are gorgeous."
"Thank you." The rouge that deepened the caramel tone of her skin only complimented the whole look she'd done to her face. I kissed her deeply again, unaware of all the eyes on us now.
"Told you he'd get a boner."
I pulled away quickly and looked down at myself as a chorus of laughter peeled from the audience. I did not have a boner, definitely a chub, but I had some kind of control over myself right now, given the crowd.
"Cambrie." Ebony glanced over at her youngest daughter to chastise her, and I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped. We'd only spent a few days together since my arrival here last week, but her youngest had quickly grown on me, reminding me of Ebony when she was a girl. She had the same carefree attitude my love once had. I wanted Ebs to get that back.
"Well, if everyone's done, I'd like to start the ceremony." On the other hand, Damien was always in perfect control of himself, as if losing it at all was his worst nightmare. I wondered if this was a result of being raised by my brother because neither myself nor Ebony was like that, and I had no idea where else he may have inherited that from.
Or perhaps, he was still a bit standoffish with me. I couldn't blame him, I was entering, to him, his mother's life for the first time and it didn't matter what we said about our history, as far as he was concerned, I wasn't his father. Not in the way Nate had been.
That kind of acceptance would only come with time, but I was willing to pay whatever time I needed to develop the relationship I wanted to have with my kids.
"It's not in our customs to hold this kind of ceremony. The words that are often spoken between mates are left for their bond and not shared with the pack.
