Chapter sixteen

Tessa wiggled and squirmed on Kade’s too firm mattress. After staying the past few nights, she had yet to adjust and found it difficult to get a comfortable night’s rest. She stretched her limbs and cautiously peeked one eye open as Kade’s blinds began rotating, set to a specific time very early every single morning.

Tessa groaned softly. She missed her blackout curtains where she could sleep all day if she wanted, even as the sun sat high in the sky. Here, she was lucky if she could sleep an hour past sunrise. She might’ve been able to sleep longer if he had changed the timer on the blinds like he had said he would.

“I thought you turned off the timer,” she groaned, squinting.

Kade laughed groggily beside her. “That’s what I told you, so you’d stop pestering me.” He poked her side, but she halted the impending assault by grabbing his finger, threatening to bend it.

“You must enjoy me being cranky all day.”

“Meh,” he yawned out. “You’re cranky whether you’re up early or sleep in late.”

I hope he’s okay.

She gripped her middle and felt a tinge of discomfort. Her own. Guilt, she presumed. All these days had passed, and she hadn’t thought about Isaac much. In all fairness, she hadn’t had much time to think about anything; she was too wrapped in Kade’s energetic bubble. After her long workday, he kept her busy by dragging her to run errands, forcing her to meet up with his friends or coworkers. On the very rare occasion they sat in his apartment, enjoying quiet time together, she was busy dodging his sexual advances.

For years, she had fantasized about how he would be in bed. She imagined he was the adventurous type, leaving her with sore muscles as reminders of the ways he would bend her over, twisting her body, and working her how he desired.

She hummed to herself, with the mere thought of her thighs spread open for him with all his power looming above.

The opportunity was hers for the taking, but she didn’t want her judgement clouded, although the tension mounted between them. Last night, he might’ve gotten his way if he hadn’t dragged her out past midnight.

Keeping up with Kade Westbrooke proved more tiring than she had ever imagined. She was
